Hell on Heels
The Band

Lead guitar and singer duo Rene Burkard and Renee K. ("Rene & Renee") relocated here from Germany several years ago, bringing with them a European twist to the rock/blues program: sensuous, driving grooves that burn the pants off of rock and roll. Movers and shakers won't be disappointed as Renee K. shimmies through the entire program... and you can, too. If you can't get up and boogie to Etta James' "Shakey Ground" or the Amsterdam-inspired "Dancin' in the Streets“, then make an appointment to see your chiropractor.

Guitar: Rene Burkard has been playing guitar for over 40 years and was repeatedly quoted in 1984, 1985 & 1986 as being one of the best rock guitar players in Germany. His band “Broomstick Dusters” won two prestigious award competitions among several thousand qualified rock bands and they were touring all over Germany. Rene also played with greats like Luther Allison in Germany and France and Helge Schneider. He had the honor to play with Eelco Gelling (Cuby & the Blizzards/Golden Earring).
Besides touring and musical productions, Rene worked for many years in the music industry as a product development specialist and sales manager for a large multinational musical instrument distributor. He is still a dedicated electric guitar tone devotee as well as a respected “Gold Supporting Member “ of the popular international internet forum “GearPage”.

Vocals: Renee K. has a voice as "down and dirty" as her shimmy. She punctuates the fast-driving Euro-inspired tracks like "Checkin' Out" while giving a sensitive touch to ballads such as "Beast of Burden". She was known in Germany as an "energy bomb" for ability to send a vibration through a room. In her book, life is to short to stay seated, so be ready to get out of "park".

Bass: Andy Brienen ensures that the groove hits the spot. His full tone resonates through instrumentals such as "Lenny" and his funky drive shows in "Shaky Ground" and "Are You Gonna Go My Way". Rene and he have "fine tuned" into each other over the years and the result is a tasteful musical experience.

Drums: Giorgio Darrow, a New York City native, is the heartbeat of the band. He says he has been playing drums since he saw Elvis on TV. His passionate feeling for dynamics allows the group to do justice to classic masterpieces from Led Zeppelin, Cream, and Hendrix. With his groove and Renee's shake, it will be tough to stay in your seat. He has also 40 plus years of musical experience playing in countless bands in the NYC area. In 1974 he replaced Dee Dee Joey in his former band when Dee Dee joined the Ramones .
